The name of the software is Pacer. Experts have long thought Pacer to be too expensive and outdated. Because of the charge of ten cents per page and budgets straining at the seams, the court system removed a decade of online public records. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy said the removal of the thousands of cases of online records “is essentially erasing history.” The hardest hit was the four federal courts of appeals. He said, “It also severely limits access to information not only for legal practitioners, but also for legal scholars, historians, journalists and private litigants. For more on this problem, refer to David Kravats article at http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/09/senator-demands-us-courts-recover-10-years-of-online-public-records/.
GEORGIA WORLD WAR II DRAFT RECORDS ONLINE: The local board arranges all draft registration cards numerically, then alphabetically by surname of registrant for people born between 1897 and 1929. For additional information about this collection, contact the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. The cards are part of Record Group 147: Records of the Selective Service System, 1926-1975. Today, the site was down temporarily, but when it is restored, it will be at www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/.
